The Harrison County Concerned Citizens, best known for planning the two TEA Parties that occurred in Cadiz, Ohio last year, has renamed its organization to the Eastern Ohio Concerned Citizens (EOCC). This change was made to be more inclusive of the surrounding counties and the people who have come together to help with events. A name change is not the only new thing that is happening with the group. Starting in January, the EOCC will host a five week series on the Constitution and the 28 Principles that the founding fathers drew upon to create the framework of this great work that guides our Country. Jim Knisley is the instructor for the classes. Jim is an enthusiastic scholar on American History and the Constitution eager to share his passion for history. The class will be based on the book, “The 5,000 Year Leap”, by W. Cleon Skousen. This book will be available for purchase at the class at a reduced rate of $7.00; however, purchase of the book is not required to attend.
You may have a feeling of helplessness and outrage at the government. Congress seems to make decisions regardless of our calls and protests. If you’re too vocal, you’re labeled as part of the angry mob. What can you do? We can educate ourselves. James Madison understood this when he said “In order for a free people to prevail and enjoy the fruits of this thing that is nothing less than a miracle (The Constitution), we must dutify ourselves in the preserving of it by educating all the common people of the intent and wonder of it.”
This series will follow the book and will most certainly be filled with lots of discussion. An outline of the classes can be viewed at www.eocc-09.com. The classes will be held at St. Teresa’s Activity Center, 143 E. south Street, Cadiz, Ohio starting Mondays, January 18, 2010 through February 15, from 6:30-8:30 pm. If you plan on attending and would like a book we ask that you pre-register so enough copies of the book are available at the first class. Attendance to all classes is not mandatory and we encourage you join in even if you are unable to attend the first class or have not pre-registered. Please do not call St. Teresa’s with questions or to register. You can call Barb at 740-624-0543 or email harrisoncoteaparty@yahoo.com. Also, by becoming a member at the website you can RSVP there as well.
