There has been an alarming trend taking place here at mylocalpcpro. A steady stream of personal machines have been left at the shop, all carrying the same virus. The same symptoms and the same effects. This piece of software is called System Guard. And it comes in over a dozen different versions and styles.

While this paticular program has been countered, with past versions, a new version of it has this shop hitting the books and utilizing un-conventional ideas to beat this software. But that takes time and almost extreme attention to detail.

Due to the high number of machines carrying this software entering the shop, we would like to advise everyone to be cautious.
This type of program will NOT be countered by conventional Anti-Virus software. ie. Mcafee, Norton, AVG, Trend Micro, etc.

And this program is consistently associated with myspace, facebook, limewire users. etc.

The reason why your standard security software will not stop this threat, is because at some point you agreed to download and install it, although you may not have realized it at the time.

Just by going to a website. You agree to download and install whatever is required to view that web page. Thus, you download the malicious software and install it, as you are downloading a web page. Technically you agreed to install, although you never would of done it willingly, had you known.

This program is scareware. It will attempt to frighten the average computer user into believing their system is horribly infected with various viruses, and that if they don’t buy the program, things will get worse and eventually your computer will be kaput.

The goal is to fighten the user to the point where they will blindly input their credit card information to obtain the ‘cure’ for their problems. The problem is this..

Your money will be heading to some urban area in Russia. Not only the money you agreed to spend, but possibly hundreds or thousands more that you did not agree to. Your computer is still infected and no fix will be forth coming. You have just been scammed.

This program downloads and installs new malicious software, every moment that your machine is online.  Every day your computer will become slower..more unresponsive. Programs will crash. You will have problems accessing the Internet. And you are at risk. Logins, Passwords, Credit Card Transactions are all now potentially available to others.

Obvious signs and symptoms of this type of malicious software includes the following:

1. Sluggishness and slow response time
2. A new ICON appearing down by your system clock on the lower right hand side
3. A program appearing as soon as you turn on your machine that informs you that you have multiple viruses on your computer
4. Your browser redirecting you to websites you did not want to go to.
5. Pop ups on your screen that prevent you from normal operation
6. Your wallpaper being replaced, and not by you.

This new variant of Sys Guard is a brute and the cure involves time. Be careful of the websites you visit. Do not open every app that someone sends you on your social networking website.  The Internet is a cesspool of danger. Be vigilant.
