     The 77th annual Scio Fall Festival, sponsored by the Scio Volunteer Fire Department and the Scio American Legion Post #482, will be held August 18-21 on Main Street in Scio.

     Rides, games, live entertainment and many special events are scheduled, and fifteen local, non-profit organizations will have a variety of food stands set up in the midway.

     This year’s festival theme is: “25 Years and Still Shining”, honoring the Silver Anniversary of the Scio Show and Shine Car Show, held in the grassy field off Eastport Street on Saturday, August 21st at 12:00 noon.

At that same time, The Conotton Creek Bike Trail Committee will hold a bicycle show at the covered bridge adjacent to the car show area.  Persons are welcome to display unusual and sporty bikes during this time.

     Entries for the Scio Garden Club Flower and Garden show must be registered between 5-8 PM at the Purviance Exhibition Hall on West Main Street.

    The old fashion street fair’s activities kick off on Wednesday, August 18, with Stage entertainment by local vocalist, Shay Bonnell, at 5 PM, and at 8 PM a Karaoke Contest with music by “Top Notch Entertainment”.

    At 6:15 PM the 26th Annual Scio Fall Festival 5K Run and   the Kid’s Fun Run is scheduled, with the  Kid’s run beginning  at 6:15 PM followed by the 5K Run at 7 PM.

     Thursday’s events begin at 5 PM with a demonstration by Miller’s Martial Arts, and at 6 PM the Harrison County Cheerleading Squads will perform in front of the grandstand.   At 6:30 PM the Cub Mobile Derby begins. 

     Country and Oldie’s Music will be provided on the main stage by “The Streamline Band” at 8 PM.  At the same time, a Teen Dance and dance contest, with music by N & B Entertainment will be held at the former Dollar Store Parking Lot.  Cash prizes will be awarded in the dance contest.

     Friday’s events begin with “Zumba with Dayna” at 5 PM, and at

6 PM the Opening Program will begin with the Presentation of the Colors by the Scio American Legion and the National Anthem sung by Roger Logstan.

    The largest parade in Harrison County begins at 6:30 PM with Robert (Duck) Zantene serving as the Grand Marshal.  Over 150 units are expected to participate in the parade which lines up at the Scio Pottery parking lot. The Harrison Central and the Conotton Valley High School Bands will perform along with the famous, 150 member, Jewett-Scio Alumni Band.

     After the parade, the evening concludes with music from the variety dance band, “Hot Pursuit” and the Commemorative Cup Auction at 10 PM.

     Saturday, August 21st, begins with the 12 noon “Show and Shine Car Show, featuring “The Spikeman” playing tunes. At 12:30 the 15th annual Arm Wrestling Tournament begins, and at 1 PM the Guitar Hero contest will be held at the stage area.  At 2 PM the Great Conotton Creek Duck Race will be held on the Conotton Creek.  At 4 PM local artist, Jim Yoss will perform Acoustic Music, and at 4:30 vocalist, Cindy Francis, will entertain the audience.

       The Kid’s Parade steps off at 6 PM, and Classic Rock and County Band, “Blind Date: will perform at 8 PM.  Culminating the festival’s activities will be the Queen’s Contest at 9 PM, and the Merchant’s Prize drawing at 10 PM.

     Albanese Amusements will provide Midway rides and concessions.  One price wrist bands will be available nightly for all rides.

     During the festival, everyone is encouraged to visit the Purviance Exhibition Hall, the Scio Historical Museum and the RJ Spiker Fire hall picture display provided by Mr. E.D. Shumaker.  The Harrison News Herald will have pictures available that they have accumulated over the years.  The Purviance Exhibition Hall will feature the Scio Garden Club Flower and Garden show in addition to exhibits from Harrison County Democrats and Republican, Carroll-Columbiana Harrison- Solid Waste District, Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District, Harrison Hills City School District, and the Harrison County Strategic Plan Initiative.  For further information call 740-945-2172.
