Going Green Tip #22

Another tip to help you go ‘green’.

I’m not sure how many people use wood burners in their homes, but I have a few family members that have one and I thought instead of throwing the ashes away, why not use them for something?  Here’s a few ideas on how to use ashes.

Since it’s almost officially the winter season in our area,  why not use ashes from your wood burner to melt the ice and snow that’s on your walkways?  Just sprinkle some ashes on the icy spots and let it take care of the rest.  It’s easy to do, it saves money, and is also recycling something that is usually thrown away.

In the summer, when a lot of people seem to grow gardens, sprinkle ash around your flower beds and gardens right after a rain to keep slugs and snails away from your plants.

I hope these couple of ideas help everyone in their everyday life.
