Memorial Foundation Scholarship Winners

The JP W.Pyles Memorial Foundation, Inc. proudly announces the 2011 recipients of its $1,000 scholarship.

Harrison Central’s recipient is Haley Harrison of Scio, Ohio. She is the daughter of John and Peggy Harrison. Haley has lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track. She was a member of the 4×8 relay team which holds the school and OVAC record. This team also placed 15th. At the state track meets. Haley has a 3.30 GPA and will attend Belmont Technical College majoring in Nursing.

Conotton Valley’s recipient is Samuel Rodriguez. He is the son of Mike and Sandy Rodriguez of Bowerston, Ohio. Sam has participated in football, basketball and track during his high school years. He has lettered in all the sports and received numerous awards. Sam will attend West Virginia University in the fall majoring in Physical Education and hopes to coach in the future. He has a 3.43 GPA at CV.

We congratulate Haley and Sam and wish each of these young adults the best in their years ahead!

The JP W. Pyles Memorial $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a senior athlete from Conotton Valley and Harrison Central High Schools each year. The foundation was established in memory of JP William Pyles who passed away April 18, 2006. At the time of his death he was a coach and tutor at Conotton Valley high while working on his masters degree in Education. It was his dream to better the lives of the youth of Harrison County.

The Foundation is having the 6th annual fund raiser on Saturday, August 13, 2011. The day begins with a “Dice Run”. Sign up is at 9AM, at Bob’s Pub – Main Street Scio. All bikes are to be out by 11AM. Registration is $15/rider or $20/couple; this includes a meal and band. There will be a Chicken Dinner beginning at 4PM which costs $6.00. Then from 9PM-1PM there will be entertainment by l.4.N.l Band for the 21 and over crowd. Band & Dinner are $10.00 and band alone is $5.00. [ Previously Posted Here ]
