The Bethlehem Walk will take place on:

December 2nd, 3rd & 4th. 2011

  • 6:30 PM Music Starts
  • 7:00 PM through 9:00 PM – 30 minute tours

At The Scio United Methodist Church Grounds, in Scio Ohio

The Bethlehem Walk is an outdoor drama which brings to life this small Judean village on the night of Christ’s birth. This “you were there” production is sponsored by a number of area churches and involves approximately one hundred and fifty people in its cast and crew.

Visitors to Bethlehem will begin their journey from the church sancuary. The sights, sounds and odors of ancient times will come to life as a guide leads them to the fields of Bethlehem where shepherds can be found grazing their sheep. From the shepherds, travelers will enter the town where they will come face to face with angry Roman troops, the local tax collector, innkeepers and tradesmen hawking everything from baskets to slaves, goats and poultry.

King Herod, the Magi and a Rabbi will also be met along the way. The journey will end at the stable where the new born Messiah is found asleep in the manger.

The tours last approximately twenty-five minutes. However, due to the increasing number of people coming to the walk, groups should be prepared to wait in the sanctuary from half an hour to an hour.

A Christmas program featuring Scripture reading and musical performances by local choirs and vocalists is provided for entertainment and will se the mood for the actual journey.

Visitors are advised to dress in layers, according to the weather and bring an umbrella if necessary. The Bethlehem Walk will not be cancelled except under extreme weather conditions.

The entire walk is handicap accessible and a nursery is provided for small children.

There is no admission fee, although donations are accepted to help with the expenses.
