CADIZ- Local businesses and organizations are being touted during the 14th Annual Cadiz Business Association Community Recognition Banquet on March 17 2012.

The event, which is sponsored by the Cadiz Business Association, Sally Buffalo Park Board and Harrison News-Herald with additional financial support by Frontier Communications, highlights those who have made a significant investment in improving the community through business operations, organizational services and volunteerism. The Cadiz Business Association will honor three awardees for following that criteria: Mattern Tire and The Lincoln Inn Bed and Breakfast as Business of the Year; Harrison County Help Me Grow for Organization of the Year; and Columbus Equipment Co. with the Beautification Award.

Mattern Tire, which celebrates its 16th anniversary this April, garnered Business of the Year accolades for its continued commitment to the community. The Lincoln Avenue business, which is operated by Nip and Tammy Mattern, provides a wide array of automobile services – from oil changes and alignments to brakes and tires– for complete car care and the site employs six people. In addition, Matterns affirmed its commitment to the business community by officially establishing The Lincoln Inn B&B last year to offer comfort and rest to travelers. The inn, which is located next to the tire business, includes six rooms with private baths and space to commune for larger public events.

Help Me Grow of Harrison County, which currently operates under the auspices of the Harrison Hills City School District, serves approximately 90-110 clients, including children from birth to age 3. Among its services are home visits, prenatal services and parental support. It also works with schools to transition kids into the educational system and reviews children with disabilities, significant medical conditions and developmental delays. Help Me Grow also helps organize Operation Warm, an annual coat campaign that recently assisted 101 county families, including 214 children and 20 adults.

Columbus Equipment Co. is synonymous with mining and construction equipment, but it has earned the Beautification Award for making ongoing improvements to its facility in Cadiz. The company completed the $100,000 first phase in a three-phase project with new interior work, but other plans involved replacing signs and painting the exterior, plus upgrading the block work and walls and renovating the service area. Columbus Equipment Co. was established in 1952 as an equipment dealership for construction, earth-moving, paving, material handling (cranes) and compaction. The Cadiz site originally opened in 1976 on East Warren Street but moved to 290 Steubenville Pike two years later. It currently employs 19 people in sales, parts and service.

The banquet’s social hour starts at 6 p.m. with dinner and awards scheduled for 7 p.m. A total of seven awards will be presented from the CBA, Sally Buffalo Park Board, Harrison News-Herald, and Cadiz Women’s Civic Club with the Cadiz Lions Club providing its secret Citizen of the Year Award. Adrian Pincola is back as Master of Ceremonies while The Hoyts and DJ Jeremy Thompson will provide musical entertainment. Tickets are $25 each and will only be sold in advance. They are available now at Harrison News-Herald, Cadiz-Harrison County Visitor’s Center, PNC Bank, Nancy’s Flowers and Gifts, Huntington Bank and Orme’s Hardware. For more information, contact the Harrison News-Herald at 740-942-2118 or Visitor’s Center at 740-942-1102.
